The body's reserve tank is an amazing thing. You may feel utterly exhausted and unable to move another step but your brain has wisely held back an enormous amount of energy for a fight or flight moment. Tapping into your body's physical reserve tank takes practice. It's available to us all but if you don't practice opening the valve that allows the reserve energy to be released you'll default to the slowing down under the false assumption that you're completely out of fuel.
It's easy to have the desire to flip the switch when the big opportunity arrives but you won't even know where to reach without the practice. The real hard work is showing up everyday, pushing yourself to the limit, learning where your reserve tank switch resides, and engaging it in preparation.
